“Omani nationals travel for only six months a year - between April and September which is monsoon season in India. We want to promote the monsoon season in a big way to attract more tourists from Oman,” said IRV Rao, assistant director of India Tourism in Dubai. He said that talks were on with travel and tourism agents in Oman to promote the monsoon season tourism in India among Omani nationals. “There will be discounts and attractive monsoon packages for the travellers from Oman. It will be really an experience for the travellers from this part of the world to witness the Indian monsoon season which is spread all across India mainly in southern states of Goa, Kerala and Karnataka,” he added. The officials said that the tourism between Oman and India would grow further if the governments of both countries agree on introducing visa on arrival for tourists. India had been pushing for monsoon tourism which was earlier a low season. As per the statistics, Oman was one of the main countries in the GCC from which maximum number of tourists reached India. While 35,485 Omanies travelled to India in 2010, it was 40,577 in 2011 and 49,759 in 2012. “There has been a steady increase in the flow of tourists from Oman to India in the last couple of years. Apart from Oman, people from UAE also travel to India as tourists,” the officials said. The Indian Ministry of Tourism has already been able to highlight the monsoon in Kerala, Goa, Rajasthan, Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh in a big way.
